Stand-out Travel Nurses: 5 Traits Recruiters and Employers Want
HLL x Travel Nurses

@hellolovelyliving at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Hononlulu, HI. Discover things to do in Hawaii.

Aspiring for a job that provides the opportunity for travel is always a benefit no matter the position in question. As more and more people look for work that fulfills deeper personal aspirations that allow for greater experiences and freedom, the demand for such positions continues to increase. Depending on which industry you are in, you may just discover that there is an opportunity out there that could provide a way for you to travel for work.

For instance, if you are a nurse in the healthcare industry and have the desire to explore positions that will allow you to travel, one of the first things to start planning for is how to best become qualified for a travel nurse position so that your chances of getting hired are increased. Nursing is a heavily regulated industry, so when you are applying for a job, it is important to be aware of what makes a good travel nurse applicant.

Here are seven traits recruiters and employers look for in good K-12 staffing:

01

Flexibility

A travel-for-work position can mean greater flexibility with your hours as well as with the location in which you work, which is great for people who are open to more options. Additionally, you may be asked to work long hours and weekends, or perhaps no hours at all. You might also be asked to travel great distances, which means leaving behind friends and family while you are away from home. For many, this may seem daunting, but for some, this is an opportunity to recharge and create space for yourself to regain a sense of independence and exploration.

To be prepared to meet your needs as well as the requirements of the positions you will explore, it is a good idea to make a list of things you are flexible with and things you are not willing to negotiate. This will allow you to narrow down certain opportunities so that you come as close to what your ideal arrangement is. It is important to be flexible when it comes to becoming a travel nurse, so be prepared to step outside of your comfort zone when it comes to scheduling and available locations.

02

Independence

When it comes down to it, becoming a travel nurse requires a high level of independence. Whether it is finding housing or making friends in new cities or states, being able to do things on your own without anxiety will help you succeed as a travel nurse. Being able to adapt makes you more marketable in this type of job because you will be required to do it very often and with ease. If you are someone who gets anxious about doing new things outside of your comfort, this will not be a position for you unless you develop your ability to manage stress during frequent change. Now, if you are someone who loves the opportunity for change—this is the right position for you, and you will find joy in the process.

03

Patience

Nurses are expected to care for many people in a short period of time, so they must be able to handle high levels of stress. As mentioned previously, learning to manage stress during frequent change is crucial to your success in this position. When you pair the stress of adapting your life to new changes with on-the-job stress, if not managed well, you can really come up against a heavy load on your mental health. Developing patience will allow you to experience the highs and lows as they come and not allow everything to overwhelm you at once. When you focus on the now and handle things step-by-step, you are better able to meet the challenges ahead.

04

Communication Skills

As a travel nurse, you will be required to live away from home for extended periods of time. This will require you to nurture your relationships from far away, which means communication is essential. If you are a parent, this can mean that you must have strong relationships in place to weather the challenges of you not physically being present in the home.

Additionally, depending on your family size and household demands, being away will mean leaving your responsibilities in others’ hands. You must be prepared to hand over control of household duties and have the proper plan in place to ensure that things are taken care of while you are away.

In addition to good communication skills with your family, your communication skills also must extend into your job. Good communication skills are a great way to make your patients feel cared for. One way to improve your communication skills is by getting training and certifications through chaplain organizations to help your patients in times of distress.

05

Leadership Skills

Nurses are often in charge of other nurses, so it is important that you are able to manage your team effectively and lead by example during difficult situations. You will need to be prepared for emergency situations where your team needs to work together quickly without much instruction from management or other higher-ups.

Being able to quickly adapt to new work settings and people will be a strength that will help you jump right into your work requirements. Once you get a handle on systems and develop them for yourself, things will begin to fall into place, and you will increasingly grasp daily workplace challenges effectively and with a certain order amidst the chaos.

Takeaways

While there are countless factors that go into making a successful contract traveler such as experience, education, certifications, etc., five key qualities stand above the rest to prepare you for the endless changes and challenges that you will encounter. So long as you are ready and have the energy to experience different possibilities, you will be rewarded far greater in the grand scheme of things.

To receive the opportunity to travel for work is a dream that many people desire, yet few commit to or find. Here’s to taking the leap if you are seriously considering finding a position in your career field that allows you to travel. With planning and preparation, you will find what you are looking for and be exploring new cities and destinations in no time.

Five Must-Have Items for a Capsule Wardrobe When Traveling

Whether you are planning a weekend away or a month backpacking across Europe, traveling light is a skill worth developing. A capsule wardrobe can be the answer, ensuring you have something to wear for every occasion of your trip. Here are five must-have clothing items for any traveler.

01

Black Pants

A classic pair of black pants can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your needs and will be a staple in your capsule wardrobe. Linen is a fantastic option as it is easy to wash and quick to dry, which is important if you are going to need to wear items multiple times. There are also many other fabrics for you to consider. Velour, cotton, and denim are fabrics with varying textures to choose from, and depending on the type of trips you are planning, you can decide upon the ideal fabrics suited best for your type of travel destination. What is ideal for a cruise will not work on a camping trip.

02

Comfortable Footwear

If you are sightseeing when away, you are likely to be pounding the streets. A pair of comfortable shoes is a necessity if you want to avoid blisters and bunions, so you can remain stylish with a pair of classic sneakers or trainers. With a wide range of Converse shoes in a variety of colors and styles, these comfortable shoes can be perfect for travelers of all ages and are very hard-wearing and durable. Canvas Converse sneakers are machine-washable, which can also be beneficial.

03

Plain-Colored Classic Cut T-Shirt

Choose a t-shirt in a plain color and a flattering cut, and it can double up as a basic, everyday item and be accessorized to look dressier for a meal out at a restaurant or a night out. Cropped tees are still in style, or choose a fitted, long-sleeved top with an off-the-shoulder slash-neck for a smarter option. These look great with chunky jewelry and large hooped earrings.

04

Maxi-Dress

Maxi dresses are another item that works well for both daytime and evening wear, which is why they are an excellent choice for any capsule wardrobe, whether you are traveling or not. Flowy, romantic fabrics are perfect for warm evenings and ideal for hot days as they are cool and allow air to flow around your legs while still covering them to protect them from UV rays.

05

Lightweight Jacket

Wherever you are headed, a lightweight jacket is a useful piece of clothing to take with you. An anorak or raincoat can protect you from sudden downpours, and with foldaway versions available, they take up little space in your suitcase. If cooler weather is predicted, then a smart belted jacket can be a good option. Neutral colors such as camel and cream look great with most outfits.

Takeaways

Remember, traveling light is the goal, but make sure to pack enough clothes for your trip. Although laundering your clothes is always an option, you do not want to spend your whole vacation hunting down laundromats or handwashing clothes in the shower. Spending time planning your outfit choices prior to packing is essential so you know exactly what you need for your trip.

4 Things To Consider When Choosing Vacation Accommodations

Thinking of booking a vacation? While it is essential to plan every detail, from flights to hotels, you must also determine where you’ll stay. Whether renting a cottage or condo, staying in a B&B, or booking a cruise cabin, numerous accommodation options are available. Each type offers unique experiences, personal service, and cost savings. To help you choose the suitable accommodation for your upcoming trip, we have listed some things that you must consider when choosing the right place to stay:

What is your budget?

A vacation can be costly. Although many people associate vacationing with luxury, not everyone can afford that accommodation. It is best to start with the basics to avoid spending more than you can afford. If you want to stay in a hotel, you can look for special offers and discounts online. You can also consider renting a vacation home through websites such as Airbnb. If you have a larger budget, you can always look for luxury or five-star hotels like Costa Rica Villas. If you have a smaller budget, you can still find quality places to stay. Sapphire Resorts reviews can help you determine accommodations suitable for you.

Is the location easily accessible?

If you are traveling with your family or friends, you might want to choose a conveniently located place like Jamaica Villas. You don’t want to make plans to visit multiple areas of interest and be out of the way. If your accommodations are conveniently located, you can walk to nearby shops and restaurants. If you are traveling with a group of colleagues, you might want to consider booking centrally located accommodations. This will make it easier to attend meetings within a short distance from the accommodations. It is also helpful if you travel solo and want to explore the city.

What amenities do you need?

When choosing a vacation accommodation, you need to decide what amenities you need. Hotels often offer swimming pools, fitness centers, restaurants, and more. Vacation rentals such as condos, cottages, or cabins can have similar amenities. Hotels provide privacy, but vacation rentals provide a more intimate experience. If you are traveling with a family, you might need a vacation home that features a kitchen. Some vacation home rentals even come equipped with washer and dryer facilities. Hotels might provide kitchenettes, but they might not offer the same level of convenience. If you are traveling with a special someone and want a romantic getaway, you might wish to book a Bed and breakfast. Hotels might have romantic amenities, but B&Bs provide a more intimate and personal experience.

What are your language skills?

If you are traveling to a country where the primary language isn’t English, you need to be aware of the level of communication with the staff. Hotels might employ multilingual staff, but vacation rentals might only offer English-speaking staff. This can be a critical factor when choosing your accommodations. Many people are not fluent enough to make their own way in a different country and while it is a good idea to learn some helpful phrases, nothing can prepare you for conversing with locals if your language skills are limited. While this might not seem important, knowing the language can impact the experience you have and you might find it easier to stay at a resort that has English-speaking staff for convenience.

Feel More Confident Everyday
Hello Lovely Living | Feel More Confident Everyday

Confidence spreads like wildfire. It is a trait that all leaders have in common, and it is crucial for your career, your overall quality of life, and ultimate success. Confidence can also be difficult to develop for some, and innate for others. If you often succumb to self-doubt, it can feel like a very painful, uphill battle. However, if you develop this area regularly and practice healthy habits to maintain your confidence, you will attain the confidence you desire. You must work on loving yourself and being happy with who you are. Once you have done that, you have won half the battle, and you can work on believing in your abilities even further. Follow these simple steps to go down this path and be surprised at what a difference it makes in building your confidence.

No. 1

Adopt a health-conscious beauty routine

Developing healthy habits is a fundamental way to feel good about yourself. From your diet to your beauty routine, practicing healthy habits daily will take you further in gaining confidence than any piece of clothing will. Whatever we ingest shows up on the exterior more than we care to admit. If we pay attention to this simple fact, we can avoid many common stresses that have a significant effect on our confidence as a whole. For one, the types of foods we eat play a crucial role in our outer appearance and confidence. In particular, switching to a fruit and vegetable-based diet will provide phenomenal results in your energy levels, and in effect will cause you to be healthier and more prepared to present your best self to the world.

Similarly, improving or changing your diet can help you manage your weight, clear up your skin, address health concerns, and help you feel great on a daily basis. If you wash and moisturize your face twice daily and work on combatting acne or any other skin conditions, you can ease through a more natural beauty routine rather than just relying on makeup to cover up underlying issues. All you need to do is start focusing on perfecting a beauty routine that is naturally healthy for you in the long run. Additionally, simply understanding the importance of proper water intake can make all the difference in our body’s ability to function optimally. So, if you are concerned about your skin and overall health and how that affects your confidence levels, simply drink more water daily.

No.2

Learn Something New Every Day

Learning is a very powerful and empowering activity that we can partake in every single day. To start, read and develop your communication skills and knowledge base, or take classes and improve your social skills. If you do these things regularly, you will find that you have more to offer, and that is what builds confidence over time. Get out there into the world and learn about things first-hand or enjoy a documentary after work. By learning something new every day, you better yourself every day. The result is an empowered feeling over time, and it is a great way to build confidence, effortlessly. Find what you enjoy learning about and make it a natural fit in your daily life. Knowing that you are invaluable with so much to offer the world and others will enable you even further along your confidence-building journey. We like to feel needed and have the persistent desire to feel heard, noticed, and appreciated. Doing the above will provide a way to achieve that in any environment. Challenging your brain daily is also a great way to keep it active and engaged in any and every situation.

No. 3

Be mindful of your appearance

I’m sure you have heard the phrase, “first impressions matter.” Well, this is a very true statement because as human beings, we subconsciously judge appearances all the time. It’s a natural way for us to gather information about a person, place, or thing based on appearances first. In that regard, fashion is a way to express who you are without even speaking. We can be happier with who we are and how we present ourselves if we let our creativity and individuality shine through in the way we present ourselves and maintain our appearance consistently. It might sound vain, but feeling good about how we look is an important part of loving ourselves.

If your current attire does not reflect your genuine sense of style or taste, it may reflect negatively on the way you present yourself to the world. You may not feel as confident when meeting people for the first time or you may not have a cohesive first impression that matches other obvious reflections of yourself. If this is the case, you can apply simple changes. For example, this is especially true if your clothes are too tight or make you feel uncomfortable. Dressing for your body type is the best way to feel good in your clothing, look better, and acquire more overall confidence. Look for clothing that feels comfortable and looks good on you, not just what is trending at the moment. Spend some extra time and effort on identifying common dressing troubles such as the best bras for large busts or finding brands that cater to your particular body shape or type.

No. 4

Travel alone

If you really want to test your confidence and build it at the same time, travel alone. Solo travel, especially if you are a woman, is often seen as dangerous or taboo, but it can actually be one of the best ways to travel the world and cultivate your independence. After all, when you are by yourself, you have more incentive to make friends along the way. You are in charge of your future and your safety, and getting through your trip and enjoying it is one of the most empowering things you can do for your self-development. You are completely in charge of your own decisions, and you must learn to rely on yourself and the decisions you make along the way. This will in turn give you confidence in your own decisions after you finish your adventures, and everyday life will suddenly seem that much easier.

takeaways

There is no right or wrong way to become more confident. In fact, the only thing that matters is that you believe in yourself and know your worth. Each of us has so many reasons to believe in ourselves and to feel empowered because we all possess unique gifts that equip us for our life experiences. Allow yourself to naturally discover the things that make you feel distinct from the rest, then focus on that as the mechanism upon which your confidence is built. Only you know the answer to that. Once you go inside yourself, you will be able to lift whatever hinders you so that you can reveal your true nature and self. You deserve to become the confident, independent person you dream you can be. Look within.

Traveling Is Good For Mind, Body, And Soul

We’re two weeks into 2019, and I’m making it a point to explore a lot more of California and hopefully travel out of state a few times this year. I love to travel, and I am already getting antsy from keeping still for too long, and I’ve only been in California for a year. I believe traveling and getting beyond your comfort zone is so important for growth and in realizing that there is so much more beyond us and outside our little box that we create for ourselves sometimes.

Over the weekend, we took a drive to Oceanside, which is around an hour from where I live. You don’t need to hop on a plane to travel - just hop in your car! I was absolutely blown away by the colors of the sunset and the water when I arrived. I did not want to leave! I’ll be sharing a few photos from that day and a brief writeup from one of my Hello Lovely Living contributors about why traveling is so good for you.

Traveling is good for the body

This depends on you, of course. If you spend all of your vacation time sunbathing on the beach and eating and drinking anything that is an escape from your usually carefully-prescribed diet, then you are doing your body a disservice.

On the other hand, if you explore your surroundings by hiking on foot or by using a bicycle, spend some of your days swimming in the sea or in the pool, and make use of the exercise facilities at the hotel, then you are going to do your body a lot of good.

That mixed with the health benefits of the sun in more tropical climates and the courage to try some of the more healthier cuisines will ensure your body feels the benefits while away.

Traveling is good for the soul

We aren't necessarily talking about the religious benefits of traveling, although many people do find the ability to connect with their faith when away. Rather, we are suggesting that traveling is a good way to help you connect with yourself.

This is your opportunity to get away from it all, so while you might still keep in touch with friends and family back home through phone or this physical address service, you might also want to remove yourself from the chaos and people of your life by finding time to be alone.

It's while you are away that you will be able to gain a new perspective on your life and on who you are as a person. You might spend time meditating on mountain tops or on a secluded part of a tropical beach to ponder life's bigger questions.

You will have the opportunity to think without your usual distractions getting in the way. As you learn new things about yourself, and as you get a better sense of reality away from life's worries, you should return home with a renewed soul and vigor for life.
