Consider creating a garden room for your business—a space that combines the tranquility of nature with the functionality of a professional setting. Converting a garden room into a business environment can create a harmonious balance between work and well-being, leading to more creativity, fulfillment, and motivation.

Should you decide to transform a garden room into a functional business space, a detailed plan is necessary. This article explores the key aspects to consider when setting up a garden room for business.

No. 1

Benefits of a Garden Room for Business

  1. Enhanced Creativity - Surrounded by greenery and natural elements, employees can experience a boost in creativity and innovation, leading to fresh ideas and solutions.

  2. Improved Well-being - The presence of plants and natural light can contribute to reduced stress levels and increased overall well-being.

  3. Increased Productivity - A garden room can serve as a refreshing change of scenery, helping you stay focused and energized throughout the workday.

No. 2

Legal and Zoning Regulations

Before embarking on any business endeavor in your garden room, it's crucial to research and understand the legal and zoning regulations governing your property. Check with local authorities to ensure compliance with building codes, permits, and zoning restrictions related to home-based businesses.

Some areas may have specific regulations concerning the size, use, and appearance of garden structures used for commercial purposes. Understanding these regulations upfront can prevent potential setbacks and ensure a smooth transition to operating your business from your garden room.

No. 3

Design and Layout

The design and layout of your garden room play a significant role in its functionality and productivity as a business space. Consider the specific requirements of your business, such as workspace layout, storage needs, and client interaction areas.

Head to ukgardenbuildings.co.uk to find a range of sizes and shapes to get inspired. You should optimize natural light and ventilation to create a conducive work environment, and incorporate ergonomic furniture and storage solutions to maximize space. Customizing the design to reflect your brand identity and business aesthetic adds a professional touch and enhances the overall ambiance of the space.

No. 5

Technology and Connectivity

Ensuring seamless technology and connectivity is essential for running a successful business from your garden room. Evaluate your internet connection and consider options for boosting signal strength, such as Wi-Fi extenders or wired connections. Invest in quality hardware, including computers, printers, and communication devices, that meet the demands of your business operations.

Additionally, incorporate adequate power outlets and charging stations to accommodate your electronic devices and peripherals. Implementing backup solutions, such as uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and cloud storage, safeguards against potential disruptions and data loss.

No. 4

Comfort and Climate Control

Creating a comfortable and climate-controlled environment in your garden room is essential for productivity and well-being. Insulate the structure to regulate temperature and minimize energy consumption, especially in regions with extreme weather conditions. Install heating and cooling systems, such as air conditioning units or space heaters, to maintain comfortable temperatures year-round.

No. 4

Key Elements

  1. Plants - Incorporate a variety of indoor plants to add color and vitality to the space. Plants such as peace lilies, snake plants, and pothos are known for their air-purifying qualities.

  2. Windows - Consider natural ventilation options like windows and skylights to enhance airflow and indoor air quality.

  3. Natural Light - Maximize natural light exposure by positioning workstations near windows or skylights. Natural light can improve mood and alertness, reduce fatigue, and promote productivity during long work hours.

  4. Comfortable Seating - Provide ergonomic chairs and cozy seating options to ensure you are comfortable and supported while working.

  5. Greenery Wall - Consider installing a greenery wall filled with lush plants to bring the calming effects of nature indoors.

  6. Mindful Design - Opt for natural materials like wood and stone to enhance the organic feel of the space.

  7. Minimal Clutter - Keep the space clutter-free to promote a sense of calm and focus.

  8. Personal Touches - Personalize your workspace with items that bring you joy and inspiration.

No. 5

Security and Privacy

Protecting your business assets and sensitive information requires adequate security measures for your garden room. Install robust locks, security cameras, and alarm systems to deter unauthorized access and safeguard valuable equipment and documents. Implementing other digital security measures, such as encrypted networks and password-protected devices, adds an extra layer of protection against cyber threats and data breaches.

Consider additional privacy-enhancing features like frosted glass or window treatments to prevent prying eyes and create a secluded workspace.

Takeaways

Using a garden room for business presents a unique opportunity to blend work and lifestyle seamlessly while maximizing the potential of your outdoor space.

By considering legal regulations, designing a functional layout, ensuring technology connectivity, optimizing comfort and climate control, and prioritizing security and privacy, you can create a conducive and professional environment for your business endeavors.

With careful planning and attention to detail, your garden room can become a thriving hub of productivity and innovation, enhancing your work-life balance and well-being and empowering your entrepreneurial journey.

Breaking Down Geographical Barriers In The Workplace

In the contemporary business landscape, one of the most transformative developments has been the erosion of geographical barriers in the workplace.

This shift isn’t just about the physical relocation of work but a fundamental change in how businesses operate, collaborate, and innovate in a global context.

In this article, we discuss the implications of these changes and how to adapt in the marketplace.

The Era of Global Connectivity

The advent of the internet and advancements in communication technology have been the bedrock of this change. Today, teams can collaborate across continents as effectively as if they were in the same room. This global connectivity has given rise to a new workplace ethos, one that values talent and collaboration over physical proximity.

Redefining the Workplace

1. Remote Work and Flexible Arrangements: Remote work is the most visible aspect of this transformation. Companies now offer flexible working arrangements, allowing employees to work from anywhere. This flexibility has been a boon for work-life balance and has opened up opportunities for people irrespective of their geographical constraints.

2. Global Teams and Diverse Talent: Businesses are no longer limited to hiring local talent and can use virtual offices from Yourcityoffice.com instead. They can now tap into a global talent pool, bringing diverse perspectives and skills into their teams. This diversity fosters innovation and helps businesses stay competitive in a global market.

3. Technology as an Enabler: From cloud computing to collaborative software and communication platforms, technology is the enabler of this geographical shift. These tools have made it possible to work seamlessly across different locations and time zones.

The Impact on Business Operations

1. Expanded Market Reach: Breaking down geographical barriers allows businesses to expand their market reach. They can operate in multiple markets simultaneously, understanding and catering to local needs more effectively.

2. Cost Efficiency: Companies can reduce costs by leveraging remote work, such as lower office maintenance expenses and the ability to hire talent from regions with lower living costs.

3. 24/7 Operations: With team members in different time zones, businesses can operate around the clock, enhancing productivity and customer service.

Strategies for Managing Geographical Diversity

1. Cultural Sensitivity and Inclusion: Embracing cultural diversity and promoting inclusivity is crucial. This involves understanding and respecting different cultural backgrounds and work practices.

2. Effective Communication: Clear and effective communication is key to managing teams across geographies. Regular virtual meetings, clear documentation, and the use of collaborative tools help in bridging the communication gap.

3. Continuous Learning and Adaptation: Businesses must foster a culture of continuous learning and adaptation to keep pace with the changing dynamics of a globally dispersed workforce.

Challenges and Solutions

The breakdown of geographical barriers isn’t without its challenges:

1. Time Zone Differences: Coordinating across time zones can be tricky. Companies can overcome this by scheduling meetings at mutually convenient times and using asynchronous communication methods.

2. Building Team Cohesion: Creating a sense of team unity and cohesion among employees who may never meet in person requires creative approaches, like virtual team-building activities and informal chat channels.

3. Ensuring Data Security: As work becomes more distributed, ensuring the security of company data across different networks and regions is vital. Implementing strict cybersecurity protocols and regular employee training on data security is essential.

Takeaways

Breaking down geographical barriers in the workplace isn’t just a shift in where we work; it’s a comprehensive change in how we view work. This new paradigm brings opportunities for increased diversity, innovation, and market expansion.

However, it also requires businesses to navigate the challenges of managing a dispersed workforce. By leveraging technology, fostering effective communication, and promoting an inclusive culture, businesses can successfully break down these barriers, creating a more dynamic, efficient, and globally connected workplace.

Even so, these hurdles offer room for growth. In this article, we will embark on this illuminating journey together. We will delve into the essence of operating a business from the comfort of your household. Moreover, we will unravel its complexities, offering you an unparalleled understanding of this burgeoning trend.

Welcome, future domestic innovators–here is an insightful glimpse into the realm of domestic business ventures where we turn potential into reality!

The Rise of Home-Based Entrepreneurship

Welcome to the era of home-based enterprises. Over the years, the number of people choosing to launch businesses from their abodes has skyrocketed. Why this seismic shift? In essence, technology has paved the way. Advanced communication tools, for one, have eased interactions, crossing geographical boundaries.

Furthermore, digital marketing has enabled effective promotion beyond physical limitations. Amid the pandemic, this trend has only accelerated. Indeed, a silver lining was the discovery of how viable and profitable home-based ventures can be.

Reflecting on these developments, it is clear: We are witnessing a revolution in the business landscape, making it an exciting time for future residential moguls.

The Benefits of Home-Based Entrepreneurship

Now that we have taken a glimpse at the rise of home-based ventures, let's delve into their numerous benefits.

No. 1

Flexibility of Work

Firstly, residential business owners relish unparalleled flexibility. They can schedule their day to suit personal obligations or even whims. Balancing work, personal life, and recreational activities has never been easier. Furthermore, the freedom to set working hours provides control often missing in traditional workplaces.

No. 2

Reduced Costs

Secondly, a home setting for your venture significantly cuts costs. Ditching the commute saves both time and money. The daily hustle of getting to work is replaced by a leisurely walk to your home office. Additionally, overhead expenses tumble. Rent for office space, utility bills, and maintenance costs are drastically reduced or completely eliminated.

No. 3

Comfort and Personal Environment

Living room entrepreneurs also enjoy the comfort of their familiar surroundings. The lack of a stressful office environment promotes productivity and work satisfaction. Interestingly, a personalized workspace plays a vital role in enhancing work output. You can set up your office furniture just how you like it, boosting creativity and efficiency. If setting up seems challenging, experts can give you a hand, ensuring your workspace is both functional and aesthetic.

No. 4

Expanded Opportunities

Moreover, home-based entrepreneurship opens up a world of possibilities. The Internet provides access to a global marketplace, allowing entrepreneurs to reach customers far beyond their local area. It also offers a plethora of business opportunities across various industries, giving budding entrepreneurs a wider scope to explore and innovate.

No. 5

Personal Fulfillment

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, house-based entrepreneurship leads to profound personal fulfillment. Pursuing your passions from the comfort of your household allows a direct impact on your business growth. You make the decisions, you reap the rewards, and you feel the satisfaction of your work's impact.

To sum up, the benefits of operating a business from your dwelling are multi-dimensional. They offer an enticing concoction of personal ease, financial benefits, and potential for expansion.

The ability to protect your creative energy in a familiar and comfortable setting adds further allure to this enterprise model. Collectively, these elements make home entrepreneurship a desirable choice for today's dynamic business minds.

The Challenges of Home-Based Entrepreneurship

While home-based business offers enticing benefits, it's essential to understand the challenges too. After all, preparation is the key to success.

No. 1

Isolation and Lack of Social Interaction

One common struggle for homepreneurs is the feeling of isolation. Traditional office environments encourage social interactions, providing opportunities to collaborate, network, and build relationships. Working remotely, however, can limit these interactions, potentially affecting mental health and job satisfaction.

No. 2

Difficulty in Separating Work and Home Life

Achieving an optimal work-life balance presents a significant challenge. When your domestic space doubles as your office, drawing the line between personal life and work can prove to be tough.

An expert company, Zapt Movers, has done research underscoring this difficulty, revealing that many individuals struggle to disengage from work when their office is mere footsteps away from their personal space.

However, consciously setting boundaries and designating separate zones for work and relaxation within your home can significantly alleviate this issue, enabling you to better juggle your professional responsibilities and personal life.

No. 3

Limited Business Resources

Working from a residential office might limit access to business resources. Physical resources such as meeting rooms or tech equipment may not be readily available. Additionally, networking and building business relationships can be more challenging without traditional office environments and events.

No. 4

Motivation and Self-Discipline

Motivation and self-discipline can also be tested in a home-based business setting. With no boss or colleagues to monitor your work, self-motivation becomes crucial. Staying disciplined and focused is paramount to maintaining productivity and meeting business goals.

No. 5

Potential Legal and Zoning Issues

Finally, navigating legal and zoning issues can pose a significant challenge. Home-based businesses might run into zoning laws that limit the type of business allowed in residential areas. Certain permits and licenses might be required, adding to the complexity of setting up your business.

Takeaways

So, there we have it–a deep dive into the fascinating world of home-based entrepreneurship. From its surge in popularity to its numerous benefits, this trend is indeed appealing. However, it is not without hurdles. Navigating through isolation, maintaining a work-life balance, and overcoming potential legal challenges may seem daunting. Despite these obstacles, the rewards are substantial.

Ultimately, each entrepreneur's journey is unique, offering a mix of challenges and triumphs. With the right strategies, the dream of running a successful business from the comfort of a household is entirely attainable. It's a thrilling time for potential homepreneurs. So, what do you say—is home-based entrepreneurship for you?

Signs You Hate Your Job: What To Do Now

Every job comes with its rough patches. It may be that you have a great boss who has left, and you are now forced to adjust to life with a new manager. It may also be that business is booming, but the side effect of this is that you must now put more hours in so you can meet tough deadlines.

Either way, there are many situations where you may find your job gets more burdensome or demanding as time passes. The redundancy of the workweek can also become dreadful, especially if you are not doing something you are truly passionate about. Sometimes you may even outright hate your job.

Being able to identify these resentments early on is important so you can take active steps toward creating a more enjoyable work experience for yourself—one that is healthy and purposeful for you.

01

You Feel Blue Every Day of the Week

Even when you have the perfect job and love just about every aspect of what you do, it is safe to say that Sunday nights can be rough. Not one single person has ever escaped the dread if they have found themselves bound to a 9-5. It is normal for you to feel some regret when the weekend comes to an end and your to-do list is still miles long.

Despite each weekend being used for catching up on unfinished errands and tasks, you find yourself with little to no time for yourself after it’s all said and done. The outcome: feeling overly exhausted every day of the following work week. Dragging yourself into the office is something that becomes routine—coffee in hand, of course. This is a strong sign that your job is impacting your overall wellbeing and that something must be done to identify how to create a better work-life balance.

02

You Struggle Physically

Do you feel as though you have pains or aches that were not there last year? Maybe you are now having a bit of an issue sleeping, or your appetite is not what it once was. These are all symptoms that must be addressed. That does not mean that your job is to blame, but it does mean that your job could be affecting you in ways that are impacting your health on different levels.

To be proactive about this, and to prevent any further negative symptoms, it is a good idea for you to ask yourself if work is indeed the problem. If it is, then now could be the time for you to change jobs so you can improve your life and pursue work that does not take away from your health, but adds to it.

03

You are No Longer Excited

Every day at work does not need to feel like a party. However, if you never feel excited about your job, this could spell disaster for your future success in the company. You work for many reasons, whether it is to try and keep a roof over your head or to use your skills to help others. This is great, but at a bare minimum, you must ensure that you enjoy what you do. If you do not love what you do, then this will work against you, and you may even find that you end up experiencing burnout. Soon, you may find that your work will start to affect your health.

04

You are not performing

If you are making little mistakes that you would not make normally, or if you are not as engaged with your work and are working less effectively overall, then now is the time for you to start exploring other avenues. It may be that you are losing confidence in your role or that you are having a hard time knowing where you stand in terms of your position or compensation. Either way, taking corrective steps now so you can find a better balance for yourself in the near future should be your goal.

05

You Vent About Work

Griping about work from time to time never did any harm, as long as you are chatting to a trusted friend and not one of your co-workers. If you are spending a lot of your time venting about your job, give some thought as to whether or not the good outweighs the bad. If it does not, then this could indicate that now is the time for you to do something to change the situation for the better. Navigating unfavorable situations means seeing the facts and taking corrective action to get back on the course you desire.

06

You Can not Concentrate

It is easy for you to give something your full attention when you are truly engaged with it, but beyond this, hating your job takes up a lot of energy. If you hate your work right now, there is a good chance that you do not have much energy to do much of anything else. You are mentally distracted and unable to do your actual duties—the last thing you need if you are wanting to be successful in your position. Your job should be a conduit for challenging yourself toward new heights. So, anything less should be a sign that you are not in the right place and your talents are not being utilized.

07

Your Vices have Multiplied

Cookies are not your “sometimes” treat. If you have comfort food more than three times a day, this can be a sign that your habits could start affecting your health even further. In addition, it is common to turn to substances that further amplify feelings of depression or anxiety about situations that require more clear evaluation. It is also natural to want to find ourselves avoiding difficult situations by masking them for as long as we can. However, harming ourselves any more than we have to is just not something we need to accept. We can free ourselves from unfavorable feelings and outcomes by simply choosing a different route.

Takeaways

Once you have identified that you are wanting to create a better working life for yourself, be intentional about what you want. Use all of your senses to design the job that will make you feel fulfilled and impactful. Taking inventory of your non-negotiables alongside a list of preferred careers will help you approach the job market with clarity.

Due to global industry shifts, many of us are transitioning into new careers or industries. There will be many situations we find ourselves in that were least expected. Being flexible and able to stay committed to finding a perfect fit for you will suit you well and provide a way in time.

In other words, you will get there soon. Despite all of the obstacles, stay on your way toward manifesting the career that brings you peace.

Five Perfect Reasons To Work Abroad

Everyone likes to travel now and again, but not everyone has the chance to live and work abroad. Immersive traveling, as it is sometimes called, is different from being a tourist. For the period of your employment, you will become part of the community you work in, challenge yourself in new ways, and learn skills that can improve your career prospects and your life.

Work Abroad

@hellolovelyliving in Chino Hills, CA at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Hindu temple. Traveling and exploring allow you to gain inspiration from new environments. After it is all said and done, the memories that you bring back home, you will take with you wherever you go, and the memories will last a lifetime.

01

Self-Development

When life starts to feel a bit mundane, it is a strong indication you are not challenging yourself. Maybe you feel safe in your comfort zone, but there is more of you to explore, and personal development is important. There is no better way to step out of your comfort zone than to travel.

Traveling challenges you to learn a new language, connect with people, and organize your life in an unfamiliar place. Some aspects of this will be hard, and you are bound to uncover weaknesses as well as strengths, but in the end, you benefit from a better knowledge of your capabilities.

02

Better Earnings

There are many ways to work abroad; you do not need to have a professional qualification. That said, having a professional qualification does, however, open up a wealth of opportunities. It can make you eligible for specialized work visa programs in certain countries and even facilitate the LMIA application for employers (Demande EIMT pour les employeurs) seeking skilled workers. This can enhance your chances of securing a well-paying and rewarding job abroad, making your international work experience even more fulfilling.

When you train as a nurse, for instance, your experience and expertise are sought after in nations around the world. Training as a nurse is a noble career path, but it is not always the most financially rewarding. If you have quality training and experience as a nurse, but you want to earn more money in your career, travel nursing jobs are a great place to start; you can maintain a career somewhere else.

03

Language Learning

One perfect reason people choose to work abroad is to immerse themselves in another language. Language learning is excellent for the brain helping to improve memory, understanding, and creativity. It is also excellent for your resume and helps build networks.

These days, there are plenty of ways to learn languages, everything from chats in cafes or online to language learning apps. In truth, there is nothing better than full immersion in language learning since full immersion stimulates all your faculties, auditory, visual, and kinesthetic.

04

Travel and Culture

Immersive traveling offers a richer experience than vacations and short breaks. As a tourist, there is only so much you can experience in a country, and you tend towards a superficial experience that includes guided tours and tourist hotspots. Immersive travel offers much more.

Living in a country makes you part of the community for a time, allowing you to engage with the culture and politics of a place. As an ex-pat, you will be more accepted by the community allowing you to integrate with a place in a way that simply is not possible as a normal tourist.

05

Learn New Skills

Living abroad challenges you in a lot of ways and encourages you to grow and develop. Part of this process is learning new skills that would not be required in your predictable life back home. The brain is an amazing organ with incredible potential, so why not find out what your brain is capable of with some immersive traveling? These skills can serve you well in life and career.

Takeaways

The awareness that travel is an important part of our human experience is broadening across the world. One of the regrets that many people have towards the end of their lives is that they wish they had prioritized traveling more. As technology advances rapidly, working abroad is becoming more desirable as you can simply take your work with you wherever you decide to go. To have this freedom is priceless. With this understanding, turning toward careers that allow you this flexibility is undeniably the best thing you could do if you see yourself wanting to travel for work.

Road Trips: Things To Consider When Buying A New Car
HLL x Family Road Trip

@hellolovelyliving on a road-trip to the Hoover Dam with Lake Mead in the distance.

It is always a thrill to make the decision to purchase a brand-new vehicle. The excitement level might skyrocket when the purchase is motivated by a desire to go on a cross-country road trip with one's loved ones. However, buying a new vehicle on car shopping sites like Edmunds involves more than just choosing the make and model you want. It is important to weigh a number of variables before making such a big investment.

01

financial plan

A financial plan is a top priority when it comes to being prepared to purchase a vehicle. You need to be sure you can afford a new automobile before you make the purchase. If you are not prepared to do a cash payment, you will need to consider your financing options. First, consider your budget, which will be based on your income, cost of living, and any fixed or variable costs. After you have settled on a spending limit, you may decide on whether to purchase a new or pre-owned vehicle.

02

New or pre-owned

After zeroing down on your financial health, the next step is to choose between new and pre-owned vehicles. A new vehicle is likely to be more costly than a used one, but it is more reliable and has fewer mechanical issues thanks to the manufacturer's guarantee. Buying a used automobile might save money upfront, but it could end up costing more in the long run. When deciding between a new and a used automobile, you should consider the benefits and drawbacks of each option.

Hello Lovely Living

03

Make and model

Family road trip cars should have enough room and seating for all passengers. If you are taking the whole family on a road trip, it is important that everyone and their bags fit in the vehicle with ample space to allow for comfort throughout your travels. It is also important to think about the landscape you will be navigating through. Take into consideration the tough terrain you will be traveling through if you are planning a road journey to a distant place. You will need a vehicle that allows for optimal space, comfort, and superior handling and performance.

04

Fuel economy

When looking for a vehicle for a family road trip, fuel economy is another important element to consider. You are looking for a vehicle that can go far while maximizing your fuel economy and vehicle performance. With so many automobile manufacturers transitioning to sustainable energy with electric cars, solar, and integrated renewable energy solutions, there are so many great options to consider.

Hello Lovely Living

05

Vehicle Safety

The car's safety features are another important factor to think about. If you are planning on taking your family on the road, investing in a vehicle with cutting-edge safety features is a must. You want to feel safe at all times while on the road, so this is something that you will need to prioritize.

For instance, an integral part of vehicle safety is the quality of its wheels. If you're about to purchase a car with forged wheels, consulting with an expert is crucial to ensure they are genuinely forged wheels. There's a difference between traditionally and rotary forged wheels, as the manufacturing process is different and greatly impacts their performance and safety.

HLL x Family Road Trip

@hellolovelyliving after enjoying a pit stop to the Lake Mead National Recreation area overlook before heading to the Hoover Dam.

Takeaways

In sum, it is thrilling to shop for a new vehicle for a family road trip, but it is important to do it thoughtfully. Figure out how much money you can spend, and think about the car's interior room, how much gas it will save you, and how safe it will be. Consider whether you want to buy a new or used vehicle, as well as how you will maintain it once you have bought it. The family road trips you take in your new vehicle will be more fun and memorable if you take the time to plan them out in advance so that your vehicle has you covered for many road trips to come.

How To Manage Your Time As A Freelancer
Hello Lovely Living

This month, Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Ireland celebrated their 5th birthday celebration at Upside Pizza in NYC. They have been successful in understanding their customers’ needs since the launch of their flagship product, the Jet Lag Mask, and have since launched many other products. Their nostalgic pop-up events like this one with a Self-Care shop incorporate the iconic Summer Fridays branding to achieve a memorable experience for their customers.

01

Understand Your Customers’ Schedules

Many freelancers paid by the hour must abide by time clock rules. This often means they are responsible for logging their working hours and dedicating a set amount of time each day to a project. Understand your customer schedules and how it corresponds to your routine. Ensure you are fulfilling your contractual obligations, especially when it is tied to whether you get paid.

02

Stick To A Routine

As a freelancer, you are largely responsible for managing your time. We all have routines, and you know what works best for you. But basic rules like the time you get up, eat, and sleep will help you stick to a routine and avoid you working unusual hours that leave you feeling run-down. Try to work a set amount of hours each day, take regular breaks and create a schedule that will help you stay consistent.

03

Set Boundaries With Clients

Make it clear to your clients when you are available. If you are working with clients outside your time zone, try to find some overlap in your working day where you can connect if needed. Respect your boundaries and ensure your clients know exactly when you are and aren’t reachable. This will also help establish a good working relationship with your customers and give you a clear work-life boundary.

04

Seek Financial Advice

Seeking financial advice can directly tie into the hours you work. If you are having cash flow problems, the earlier you know, the quicker you can explore new avenues for business growth and regain control of your time. The more money you earn is directly tied to the hours you work as a freelancer, so keeping on top of finances avoids spiraling hours to make up for financial losses in the business.

It is also best to pay attention to common personal and business expenses that can easily be prevented by choosing a bank that has no monthly fees, no overdraft fees, and free ATMs. These common expenses can add up, so this decision will be very important to avoid unnecessary expenses down the road. We are impressed with Chime because it checks off all the boxes and makes banking smarter. Earn $100 when you join Chime. Learn more.

Social media template and theme planning and scheduling tools can automate daily tasks that are often time-consuming.

05

Use A Project Management Tool

A project management tool like Asana can help you organize your time and meet your schedule and deadlines. When you are extremely busy, a project management tool can help keep you on track and ensure you can complete your projects to deadline and budget. Project management tools can help you break down large tasks into more manageable ones so that you can be more effective with your time.

06

Make Sure You Switch Off

Managing work-life balance as a freelancer can be challenging. Nonetheless, switching off is an essential part of being effective. Make time for yourself, whether protecting your hour lunch break or ensuring you finish at a reasonable time in the evenings. Do what helps you switch off best, whether that’s playing a video game or going for a run.

HLL x Creative Market x Social Media Template + Themes

Get social media templates and themes, scheduling tools, and graphic design support to help you be efficient with daily marketing tasks.

07

Invest In Automation

Automation can help you win back vital time as a freelancer. You might invest in social media planning and scheduling, automated email marketing campaigns, or prompts to potential customers that leave their cart on your eCommerce site. You can look at opportunities to automate tasks like sending invoices or payment follow-ups to help you win back time you can spend on other areas of your business.

08

Define A Reminder Schedule For Payments

Spending valuable time chasing your invoices? Setting a reminder payment schedule is vital to appearing professional and saving time. Following up on overdue invoices is stressful and, when done manually, can eat into your working hours. Setting clear reminders and payment deadlines is vital to saving yourself time as a freelancer.

09

Get To Grips With tracking your time

Do you know how long it takes you to complete tasks? An accurate picture of your tasks can help you manage your working hours and get the right project timelines. It also ties into your payments. Recording your timelines ensures you set accurate prices for your goods and services. Underestimate your hours, and you risk getting both underpaid and working extra hours to complete pieces of work.

10

Block Off Time

Blocking off chunks of time to focus on specific tasks can help you get into a flow state and manage your workload better. A flow state refers to becoming fully immersed in whatever you are doing. It describes when people achieve their best work with focus and clarity. Giving yourself allocated hours to focus on specific tasks can help you achieve a flow state and make the most of your time. Physically block off hours in your calendar to complete your projects.

11

Document Everything

Document all your workflows and processes. Identifying your business operations can help you identify where you can streamline and template your work. It is also great when your mind is blank, as you can refer back to something you have drafted previously as a prompt. Documentation is great to review as your business scales, as it can be used to train new employees or collaborators quickly and effectively.

12

Give Yourself Buffer Time

Even if it takes you three hours to complete a task, it doesn’t mean you should only give yourself three hours. Buffer time is essential as a freelancer. It protects you on days you feel tired and ill, days your boiler breaks or your internet goes down. You don’t need to cram your working days with constantly focused work. Give yourself some buffer time to protect yourself against life’s unforeseen events.

If you are questioning the value of buffer time as part of your hourly rate, it is still essential. You and your clients would be much happier if you built in time for fact-checking, proofing, and project revisions.

Takeaways

It can be tough to manage your time as a freelancer. Fortunately, resources like project management software and financial advice can help you manage your time as a small business owner. Sticking to a routine, setting clear client boundaries, and managing your timelines are important resources for working effectively. There are also many chances to automate and save time, including drafting documentation, setting reminder schedules, and investing in automation. Try these tips today and see how it helps you manage your freelance business.

A Discussion: Are Online Digital Marketing Classes The Best Fit For You
HLL x Social Media Marketing

Working your social media marketing business from here—wouldn’t it be lovely? @hellolovelyliving

Before we dive into the world of online digital marketing classes, we should first start with a few questions:

What is digital marketing?

Simply put, digital marketing is any marketing done electronically, be it online or even a digital poster on a sign in a store to reach consumers. Most digital marketing happens on the internet.

What types of digital marketing are there?

There are several types of digital marketing. One familiar type of digital marketing is SEO, or "search engine optimization". This is why when you enter a search query in the google search bar, the first few results are usually advertisements. Another type of digital marketing that people are most familiar with is social media marketing. We have all seen the "sponsored" posts as we scroll through our online news feeds. This is the use of social media platforms to promote a product or service.

there are classes I can take that teach me how to digitally market a particular product or service?

Yes. Traditionally, classes were taken on campus, but as mankind is ever-evolving into a digital world, classes can be taken more commonly online. Additionally, with the ongoing global pandemic where social distancing is not only recommended but mandated in most places, online digital marketing classes are progressively becoming more desirable versus taking a class on campus or through a local public library.

Another amazing benefit of online classes is flexibility

These days, the world is busier than ever. From an economic standpoint, it takes two incomes to financially support a family comfortably. By taking classes online, you are able to set a schedule that works for you to accommodate your daily demands. This allows flexibility in how you manage your time between any lectures that need to be watched, workshops and homework that need to be done, and exams that need to be taken.

Another big benefit that is huge in terms of the decision of whether to take classes online or on campus in a classroom setting is you can work on assignments and read on the go. Say you are on your lunch break at work; by taking your classes online, you can tote your device with you and do your work while you are on your breaks. The point is online classes not only allow for flexibility in scheduling but in how and where you work.

Now, this last point is crucial

Being that we are discussing online digital marketing classes, by taking them online, you are literally able to transfer what you have learned from the classroom to the practical application in real time. You are able to take things learned through the course of your classes and apply them right then to see how they apply as you go. Now, apps like Canva also enable you to create content such as social media posts and videos on the go making it easy to be efficient with your time.

Say you already have a business or something else that requires marketing of some type. By taking digital marketing classes online, you could theoretically plug in your real-life company or whatever you are marketing into the space where an example is used in the lesson. Then, you tackle two birds with one stone. You gain positive lesson experience for the class and promote the business that you are actively marketing.

Takeaways

It is easy to see how taking digital marketing classes online rather than in a traditional campus setting is the right approach to effectively gain knowledge and experience concurrently. With all of life’s distractions and the business of daily life in a fast-paced world, finding flexibility and something more suited to your individual lifestyle is essential in avoiding burnout. Thankfully, in an environment that is constantly evolving, there is a space for everyone to achieve work-life balance.

How To Dress For Work When It Is Freezing Outside
HLL x Dress for work for winter

@hellolovelyliving using her favorite teddy bear hoody jacket to keep warm

Dressing for work during the winter season in cold climates can be challenging, especially for women. You want to feel warm and comfortable, while also looking stylish and professional.

Wouldn’t it be nice to not have to worry about this and instead go to the office with a rolled-out-of-bed look? If you work from home, you easily fall into this category—lucky for you!

Indeed, dressing for work when it is freezing outside takes a little bit of investment in useful accessories. With proper outfit planning, you can ensure that you are always prepared for any weather.

If you are looking to plan your outfits and accessories for the winter season, we have a few ideas for you. Here we will discuss a few winter-appropriate accessories that will protect you from the cold weather while also ensuring that you always look professional.

01

Long coats, scarves, and gloves

In many ways, your outfit matters more than you think, especially in an office setting. After all, this is the place where first impressions matter and where the way you dress speaks volumes about you to your colleagues and clients. You want to look presentable while also feeling comfortable.

When planning your office attire for the winter months, the best accessories to wear in and out of the office are long coats, scarves, and gloves. These winter-appropriate accessories will not only protect you from cold weather but also ensure that you look professional.

Aside from this, you will also feel comfortable and warm all throughout the day. Long coats look professional and chic in an office setting, so make sure to invest in coats that are made of quality materials that will last for years.

02

Warm hats

Some offices encourage their employees to wear anything that makes them feel comfortable during the colder months. If you fall into this category, you have more options for keeping warm.

In this case, choosing additional accessories such as hats in various styles can easily elevate your look while ensuring you are warm both indoors and outdoors.

Depending on the tasks you have for the day, plan out your desired look beforehand. If you are required to be out in the field for the majority of your day, try opting for a business casual or athleisure look where you incorporate a hat to go along with your outfit. A hat will keep you protected from the wind, rain, and cold while pulling your look together and making you appear polished.

Hello Lovely Living

03

Eco-friendly sweaters

While it is evident that sweaters protect you from cold weather, know that not all fabrics are created equal.

For instance, if you are heading to work in a moderate climate, wearing sustainable sweaters can be a better option. You could also go for cotton fabrics which are lightweight and comfortable to wear.

Likewise, if you are heading out in extreme weather conditions like heavy rainfall, you should carry heavy wool sweaters for maximum warmth and comfort. Wool sweaters are naturally-insulating and provide optimal warmth to combat rigid weather.

04

Shawls and blazers

Oftentimes, our workplaces can become chilly—even thermostats will not always control the indoor temperature. Ensuring that you are not vulnerable to the cold indoors is also of high importance. This will help prevent common seasonal illnesses, which can happen easily when exposed to cold drafts.

For this, simply carry a shawl or extra blazer so that you can quickly warm up in a freezing office. Plus, a shawl can double as a blanket, and you can still look professional when you wrap it around your upper body or lap.

05

Layers

Before you head out for the day, check the weather forecast and plan your layers accordingly. With layers, you can easily adjust the level of warmth you need throughout the day.

In California where it can often be a combination of warm and cold on any one given day and in different settings, it is always important to keep an extra jacket in the car for good measure.

Layering a jacket over a nice blouse can make you appear professional while maximizing your comfort throughout the day. The best part is, you can take it off if it heats up. Jackets come in various styles and fabrics, so you can pick the right one that is suitable for the weather and your planned outfit for that day.

Takeaways

Incorporating winter accessories and opting for insulating fabrics that keep you warm throughout the colder months is an effective way to ensure your comfort in and out of the office. There is nothing like the feeling of being cold with no coverup in sight to quickly warm up with. Planning your outfits for the weather ahead can help you avoid these situations. You will be comfortable, better prepared to tackle your day, and most importantly, happier you took that extra step.

Create The Perfect Ambiance For Your Office
HLL x Perfect ambiance for office

@hellolovelyliving enjoying the motivational quotes at Contra Coffee and Tea in Orange, CA

Your productivity and efficiency depend on several factors. Think beyond your skills and tools because your workspace is one of the most crucial aspects you may likely miss. Surprisingly, it can affect your stress levels, elevating them or lowering them according to your environment.

Whether you work from home or run an office, you must ensure a positive ambiance for your workspace. Fortunately, you can do it without an extensive and expensive makeover. Try these practical ideas to create the perfect ambiance for your office.

01

Start with a decluttering project

The easiest way to create an aura of positivity for any space is by decluttering it, and this rule also applies to commercial areas. Commit to a weekly cleanup and monthly de-clutter project for your work area. You can go even further by doing the same de-cluttering routine with your devices. Encourage your team to take care of individual zones and supervise the project. You will have a lighter and healthier space once the clutter is sorted through and discarded.

02

Prioritize comfort

Comfort is the key to creating a positive, vibrant workspace that promotes efficiency and productivity. Invest in comfortable and practical furniture pieces that support a healthy posture. Non-ergonomic furniture can affect the well-being of your team members and affect the overall vibe of the workplace. The material the furniture is made from also matters, making this an area to focus on, too. There are multiple options to consider, with customized foam chairs and similar options being recommended.

Moreover, you cannot expect to impress clients and visitors by ignoring details such as these. Additionally, allow employees the freedom to create a homely atmosphere for themselves with family pictures and mementos in their personal desk space.

03

Pay attention to air quality

The air quality inside your workspace is crucial in creating a health-promoting atmosphere. Routine checks and maintenance of your HVAC systems provide a good start. You can install commercial air fresheners to eliminate odors and keep the interior of your business smelling fresh. Ensure fittings at strategic points such as the reception area, restrooms, and common zones to get the best results. Incorporating indoor plants into the office space greatly contributes to the air quality and ambiance more than any other factor, so ensure that you choose indoor plants that naturally purify the air.

04

Ensure optimal illumination

Optimal lighting and illumination ensure positive and happy vibes for an office. Maximizing the entry of natural light should be a priority because it decreases your energy bills along with improving the overall appearance of the space while encouraging higher productivity amongst your staff. A little design rework is worthwhile as it can save you a fortune on power bills down the line. Install LED lights in dark corners because they may appear gloomy even on a sunny day. Avoid harsh lighting as it can overwhelm employees and affect their mood.

05

Add character

Adding character to your office is a wonderful way to create an environment that feels good. Consider doing a paint makeover with an accent wall to display your awards and achievements. Adding wall art showcasing motivational quotes is another idea worth trying. You can also personalize the space to replicate your brand colors and elements. Just be creative and open to experimenting, and you can transform an ordinary office into a welcoming workplace.

Takeaways

Creating the perfect ambiance for your office is easier than you imagine. Get started with aesthetics and make sure it feels good to the senses. Personalize your space even further in creative ways so that anyone that enters your space has an overall welcoming experience from the moment they walk into your workspace to the moment they leave. First impressions matter, so your attention to detail will not be overlooked and will be appreciated more than you expect.

Are You Attracting Good Company?
Hello Lovely living

In a world of increasing detachment, it can be difficult to tell if a person is genuine or not just from first appearances. We are all looking for a partner, friend, or colleague who will be a valuable addition to our life. We want to surround ourselves with people who are pleasant and who show good character traits.

But how do we know if a person is really worth our company and who they say they are?

A good person can be identified by their actions and how they treat others. They will follow through with their word and display characteristics that will build trust over time. They will go out of their way to help you with your needs without expecting anything unequal in return. They will act with integrity, compassion, and respect towards you and others, especially when nobody is looking.

What makes a good person?

There are many signs that show that someone is a good person. For example, they may be kind, generous, honest, and helpful. They may also be open and extremely giving of their time, money, and support to others.

The definition of being a "good person" can differ from one person to the next. There are many different ways to define what it means to be "good". However, there are some common traits that people associate with being "good".

Being kind & being nice: What’s the difference?

Being kind and nice are virtues that are good determiners of a person’s character right off the bat. These are positive indicators that display consideration in any circumstance and in any environment.

What’s the difference between being kind and being nice? Kindness is an act of selflessness that comes from within, while niceness is more of an outward display of charm or decency.

Being kind will make you feel good about yourself because it is an act of giving to others; being nice will make you feel good because it is in your best interest to do so.

Deceptiveness can be rooted-out simply by knowing the difference between a person’s kindness and niceness. A person who is deceptive may show characteristics of a nice demeanor simply to get what they want out of the interaction and for personal gain.

Knowing how to identify when someone is genuinely kind and doing things from a place of selflessness is important in being able to gauge what other character traits will follow.

Manipulation happens all the time when people want you to believe they are a good person so that you will do things in positive response to what they are trying to gain from you.

Oftentimes, this manipulation is subtle, and it may take some time before we start to see a person’s true character unfold. Their actions will start to paint a very different picture.

Setting healthy boundaries

With that being said, a person’s kindness and willingness to be supportive are indicators of a good foundation for building upon your understanding of them.

Now, let’s turn the tables. What if you find yourself in a situation where you are too kind and supportive to those you have still yet to determine value from?

Well, this can be a problem too. Knowing how to be kind and supportive without sacrificing your own needs and desires is very important to your well-being.

One thing to remember is to never be afraid to say “no”. Never say “yes” when you really mean “no”. You might not always be able to say no, and that's okay, however saying it when you genuinely do not agree is the best way to show a person that you have boundaries and limits.

It can be hard to say no, but it's important for people to know what your boundaries and limits are. This is a display of self-care, and you will be able to weed out those who are not willing to respect your needs as well.

Trust takes time. The best way to avoid being deceived or misled by others you are just getting to know is to allow for time and space to learn about them and to allow them to show themselves first before you get involved further. Gather information and let things develop. You may even want to look into doing a search of public records, especially for business dealings.

If you’re just getting to know someone and don’t trust them yet, start with building strong open communication. At a bare minimum, open and solid communication should be the first thing we look for in validating a person’s intent. If they can’t provide for a basic need such as communication at the very beginning, this is a serious red flag.

Allow this to happen prior to you engaging in a more serious personal or professional partnership or relationship that way the substance of your interactions is built on a solid foundation. When someone knows exactly who you are and what you are trying to achieve in your interaction, you will have fewer questions posed later on, and you can expect the exact same from them in return.

Takeaways

Know how to identify the difference between a kind and a nice person, set healthy boundaries, and build upon open communication from the beginning.

Overall, a good person can be defined by five key qualities:

  1. The ability to show genuine empathy towards others.

  2. The ability to be honest and trustworthy.

  3. The ability to act with integrity.

  4. The ability to be kind and compassionate.

  5. The courage to do what is right at all times.

4 Things To Consider When Choosing Vacation Accommodations

Thinking of booking a vacation? While it is essential to plan every detail, from flights to hotels, you must also determine where you’ll stay. Whether renting a cottage or condo, staying in a B&B, or booking a cruise cabin, numerous accommodation options are available. Each type offers unique experiences, personal service, and cost savings. To help you choose the suitable accommodation for your upcoming trip, we have listed some things that you must consider when choosing the right place to stay:

What is your budget?

A vacation can be costly. Although many people associate vacationing with luxury, not everyone can afford that accommodation. It is best to start with the basics to avoid spending more than you can afford. If you want to stay in a hotel, you can look for special offers and discounts online. You can also consider renting a vacation home through websites such as Airbnb. If you have a larger budget, you can always look for luxury or five-star hotels like Costa Rica Villas. If you have a smaller budget, you can still find quality places to stay. Sapphire Resorts reviews can help you determine accommodations suitable for you.

Is the location easily accessible?

If you are traveling with your family or friends, you might want to choose a conveniently located place like Jamaica Villas. You don’t want to make plans to visit multiple areas of interest and be out of the way. If your accommodations are conveniently located, you can walk to nearby shops and restaurants. If you are traveling with a group of colleagues, you might want to consider booking centrally located accommodations. This will make it easier to attend meetings within a short distance from the accommodations. It is also helpful if you travel solo and want to explore the city.

What amenities do you need?

When choosing a vacation accommodation, you need to decide what amenities you need. Hotels often offer swimming pools, fitness centers, restaurants, and more. Vacation rentals such as condos, cottages, or cabins can have similar amenities. Hotels provide privacy, but vacation rentals provide a more intimate experience. If you are traveling with a family, you might need a vacation home that features a kitchen. Some vacation home rentals even come equipped with washer and dryer facilities. Hotels might provide kitchenettes, but they might not offer the same level of convenience. If you are traveling with a special someone and want a romantic getaway, you might wish to book a Bed and breakfast. Hotels might have romantic amenities, but B&Bs provide a more intimate and personal experience.

What are your language skills?

If you are traveling to a country where the primary language isn’t English, you need to be aware of the level of communication with the staff. Hotels might employ multilingual staff, but vacation rentals might only offer English-speaking staff. This can be a critical factor when choosing your accommodations. Many people are not fluent enough to make their own way in a different country and while it is a good idea to learn some helpful phrases, nothing can prepare you for conversing with locals if your language skills are limited. While this might not seem important, knowing the language can impact the experience you have and you might find it easier to stay at a resort that has English-speaking staff for convenience.

In addition, you can grab some food at Jellicoe Avenue for freshly caught fish. Plus, Auckland’s waterfront will have live music and movies if you travel during the summer.

You can even visit the country’s first Marine Reserve at Goat Island in Auckland. You could also climb Mount Eden for panoramic views of the city. To see the city from another high point, you may even visit the Sky Tower, which is the focal point of the city.

No. 6

Turkey

If you are looking for a place rich in history, Turkey is the perfect destination to get outside of your comfort zone. Explore the contrasting environments that encompass Turkey—a large peninsula that bridges the continents of Europe and Asia and is surrounded on three sides by the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and the Aegean Sea.

If you are a nature lover, there is much to be seen in Turkey. Mt. Ararat, a natural wonder held sacred by its people, has two snow-capped mountain peaks that can be seen throughout the year. Great Ararat is 17,000 feet high—the highest in the region and is believed to be where Noah beached his ark after the great flood.

Another sight to behold is Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish. This town in western Turkey is known for its white mineral travertine terraces where rich thermal waters flow down through hillsides. Neighboring areas are also rich in historical ruins like Hierapolis, an ancient Roman spa city founded around 190 B.C. Get a view of the ruins there, which include a well-preserved theater and a necropolis with sarcophagi that stretch for 2km. The Antique Pool is also a must-see for its famous submerged Roman columns, which are the result of an earthquake.

Takeaways

It is important to note that you need to plan thoroughly and do research before traveling to any country. You may choose a lightweight laptop and your travel luggage to do some searching while on the go.

It is also important to make sure that you are prepared to leave. Being spontaneous and acting on impulse may be thrilling and fun. However, since you are traveling to another country, it is better to take precautions. Have a safe trip!

I’m back with another post, and today we’re talking about a few important tips to creating a brand presence that is authentic to you. On this blog, I love to discuss topics that are real and often vulnerable, and in this article, we reinforce the idea of getting outside of our comfort zones.

I often work with women that are starting a brand new blog or website, and if there’s any advice that I try to share with them from the get-go, it is exactly the advice that you will read in this article. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it inspires you to just get out there are share your story (struggles and all), be yourself, and be confident in it all.

We recently got the opportunity to sit down with Debbie Millman: author, educator, curator, and host of the podcast Design Mattersone of the world's first and longest-running podcasts.

As the host of Design Matters, Millman has interviewed over 400 artists, designers, and cultural commentators. In the 13 years since its inception, the show has garnered over five million downloads per year, honored with a Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, and designated one of the best overall podcasts by iTunes.

Debbie is the author of six books and President Emeritus of AIGA, one of five women to hold the position in the organization’s 100-year history. She's a frequent speaker on design and branding and has been a juror for competitions including Cannes Lions, The Clio’s, the One Club and many, many more.

Here, she shares her thoughts on authenticity and vulnerability in branding and life.

Debbie, tell us a little bit about yourself.

I am a designer, an author, and an educator at the School of Visual Arts. I co-founded and run a graduate program in branding. I'm also the host of a podcast called Design Matters.

What tips can you offer to someone who wants to create a new brand presence for themselves?

Well, I wouldn't recommend that someone ever recreate themselves; I would recommend that they feature who they are on their best day, in a way that feels very authentic and true to their soul and being. People tend to respond more favorably to people that are being themselves, and, in many ways, holding that "freak" flag really high, because they can then relate and be able to connect with them in a much more visceral manner.

So, my recommendation would be to celebrate who you are on your best day, speak from the heart, and offer an opportunity for people to get to know who you really are.

A lot of people are hesitant to really put themselves out there. What would you say to them?

Watch Brené Brown's TED Talk about vulnerability. I really, truly believe that vulnerability is the birthplace of creativity, and you can't be creative and say something that is going to touch or reach other people unless you are doing it with your own open heart. So there really is no choice. If you're not comfortable with being vulnerable, my strong recommendation would be to get comfortable being vulnerable, because why else would anybody want to get to know you or pay attention to what you have to say? What are they getting to know, then? Some false friend?

How can people get out of their comfort zone and become more authentic?

Take small steps, small moves. You don't have to reveal everything about your childhood in your first email, but if you can share some part of yourself that you feel is worthy of connecting with other people, and people will feel is honest, then why wouldn't you want to do that?

That's what people want to know about you. They don't want to know all of the successes and all of the amazing things you're doing. They want to know how you've struggled, or how you've overcome an obstacle, or what lesson you learned in the process of doing something. And the more you can share that, I think the more value it has, both to yourself and to others.

Specifically, what kind of value does sharing your failures provide?

Well, everybody has experienced failure. And if you aren't able or capable of sharing what you've done wrong, why would anybody care if you're sharing what you've done right? And I feel that if we're putting a face forward that's only positive and only impressive, then we're manufacturing our meaning, because that's only one small part of what it means to be human, and strive, and long for things, and create things, and make things. And there is none of that without failure, rejection, vulnerability, fear. All of those things are just part of the process of being a maker.

Are there any particular failures or struggles that you can recount from your professional career that helped you become who you are today?

Well, almost anything I've done has been fueled by an enormous amount of rejection, whether it be book ideas, business ideas, or new pitches. My past is riddled and littered with rejections and failures. But, there are very few that I can actually look back on now and say, "I didn't either learn something, or overcome something to get to a better place, or create something out of that failure, that then became successful."

And, of course, it's easy to look back on it and say in hindsight, "Well, if that hadn't happened, then that wouldn't have happened, and then that wouldn't have happened, and I wouldn't be sitting right here," but I can tell you that it's really true.

Are there any other places that you turn to for inspiration in your career?

Well, I love to read. I love to learn, so for me, some of the people that I'm either mentored by or inspired by are people like Seth Godin, who is one of the most generous, smartest, kindest people on the planet. And he does a daily blog, seven days a week, and so you can get daily morning inspiration from him. Also, Steven Heller. He's somebody that has also been enormously supportive and helpful to me, and mentored me, and inspired me, and educated me in ways that I could never have imagined. So those are two people, on a daily basis, that I turn to, both personally and professionally, online and offline.

Finally: What's your number one tip for brands who want to create a better connection with their audience?

Think about the benefit you can provide your audience. People aren't really interested in another form, or another flavor. They're interested in what kind of difference you can make in their lives. So, what can you offer your audience that will help them grow, help them become more successful, help them learn something that they wouldn't have expected or had the opportunity to do? What can you offer your audience that no one else can?

I hope you enjoyed that short inspirational post. I know how hard it is to be vulnerable, especially in this online space. I can personally say that I have shrunk back a little just due to a lot that has happened within the past couple years within my personal life. I feel like I have a lot to share, but I don’t know where to start. It can be overwhelming. It IS tough to share our struggles, but at the end of the day, that is what helps us get through them.

Lately I’ve just been feeling the pressure to have it all together. Perhaps this opens a new chapter for me to share more struggles that I’ve been through. This interview really brought me back to why I’m here in the first place. I want to continue to create a space that is inspiring and real. This may be the start for more sharing and being confident in my imperfect story.

A special thank you to Emma for this guest post. They have many amazing marketing resources to help you with your online business. I especially enjoy their Email Showdown series where they compare the email marketing of two brands. I highly recommend their resources, so do check them out if you are needing help with email marketing and want marketing tips from the pros!

is being vulnerable something that you struggle with and how? i’d love to have a discussion below.

A Little Spring Encouragement + Free Digital Print

Spring has sprung! Seeing the sight of trees in bloom not only gets me excited for warmer months, but it refreshes my perspective and it reminds me that there is beauty in the wait. There are so many subtle reminders in nature that provide the lessons that we need, and I believe that nothing happens by accident. There is a reason for everything. However, like my quote illustrates below, although everything happens for a reason, some things happen for a season.

Yes, we'd all like to believe that everything lasts, but the reality is that life is transient by nature. Things happen that shake up our very existence only to challenge our ability to stand strong in the midst of it. What happens on that testing ground determines the outcome of our circumstances.

I was having a talk with my son, Kodi, and he made a statement that was so profound. "Thoughts are fluid." I mean, coming from a 14-year-old, that simply blew me away. What he meant by this statement was that you can't control people's thoughts. They change. People change. I mean! Proud mama moment right there.

If thoughts are fluid, we as human beings are, too. We were not meant to be in a solid, permanent state. We were meant to move and adapt. Just like every living thing adapts to the changing seasons, we must do the same. We must also learn to recognize unhealthy patterns in our life and initiate change.

Sometimes we grow
in a twisted, sideways manner
rather than straight up

but in the end,
our branches
always seek the light

and the trees
that bear
the sweetest fruit
endure
the longest winters.
— April Green

As the new season approaches, I just want to encourage those of you in particular that may be going through a difficult season. Know that it is not meant to destroy you, but to build you. It will not last forever, it will pass.

Get excited when there is a time of resistance in life because that is the very time when your strength will come out. You don't know how much you have within you until you are tested. Take this time as an opportunity to bring out the best in yourself and develop areas that you haven't really paid attention to. Shed the old, welcome the new.

In my personal experience, I've learned how to recognize the different seasons of my life for what they are and not be resistant to whatever lessons that I am supposed to learn in those moments. I actually get really excited when things get hard and difficult because I know that just by going through those experiences, I am growing through them. I welcome every opportunity that requires me to take a deeper look at my life and myself because I don't ever want to be comfortable in my ways or lead a comfortable life where I am never challenged or never challenge myself.

I created the free digital print that you see above for you to frame and keep up as a reminder for those times when it's hard to see things for what they are. Rest in the idea that everything happens for a reason, but know that some things happen for a season. Your seasons do not necessarily define you, you define how your seasons will impact you - either positively or negatively.

Cheers to experiencing the fulness of life through every season!

I hope you enjoyed this little reminder and that it encouraged you through whatever season you are currently facing today. If you need more inspiration on the daily, I post every day on Instagram + keep you motivated and inspired with uplifting content. I'd love to see you over there!

Minimal Home Office + $250 Minted Giveaway

One of my most popular posts on Instagram was a photo of my desk situation, so I thought it would be fun to dedicate an entire post to my little creative area. Keyword: Little. I claimed a cute, albeit small spot in my living room, which has been the perfect location for getting those creative juices flowing. I mean, all I need is a desk, really - and an area for my plants. All worked out well except for one thing. My walls needed some love. Major big deal.

I'll be sharing my updated space + a huge giveaway at the end, so read on for more!

Okay, so the walls directly above my desk were bare. Zero inspiration to be found on these beige walls. I know, sad story, right! That had to change, so when Minted got in touch with me again, I was like, "Yes. Yes. And Yes!". Okay, maybe not that many yeses, but in my mind there were. I needed some pretty prints on my walls, and they are my go-to when it comes to exactly that, so it was perfect!

If you're not familiar with Minted, it's an online marketplace for independent artists from all over the world. There you can find art, stationary, decor, gifts, + more for all of those special moments and events in your life. If you truly want unique art products that you can't find anywhere else and love to support independent artists, Minted is the place to shop (speaking from experience)!

So, if you follow me on Instagram, you might know that I made a trip to Maryland in November and visited the Rawlings Conservatory & Botanical Gardens in Baltimore. Let's just say that I took a million and one photos there. Obviously. This is me we're talking about here. Haha. This was the perfect opportunity to print some of them.

Seen above are a few of the many photos that I fell in love with from my shoot. Aren't they just gorgeous! Surprisingly, I was able to quickly decide on two photos that I wanted to make into custom prints. I also decided on my heart + hustle digital print, which is available for instant download in my shop.

Here it is - my minimal office space with my Minted custom art prints on display! Do you like it?? The Ruffled Feather print on the left is a Minted print that I already had, followed by my new custom photo print in the middle, and my heart + hustle digital print on the right. The awesome thing about Minted is that you get to choose what type of frames you want, and they have so many pretty options.

No to mention, you can also choose from different sizes, so you really can get creative with how you want your prints to look. I chose to go with a white frame for my photo print and a speciality brass finish for my heart + hustle print. I love the look of things not looking too matchy-matchy because it adds a lot more interest.

I decided to add my other new custom photo print to my existing gallery wall in my living room to freshen it up. I chose to go with a wood frame, and I'm so obsessed over it. I also removed some older prints and instead added some small playful details that I am absolutely loving. The Joy is Sexy print is also another one of my digital prints that is available in my shop, and the brass frame is from Target. The Let's Get Lost print is from Minted as well, and the mirror is from Ikea, which I just spray painted a brass color.

If you're interested in creating custom photo art prints on Minted's website, here's exactly what to do: Search "custom prints" in the search bar, which brings you to the exact page that displays all of the available design options. Under the filter options, go to "Type", and make sure to check the "Custom Photo" box. There you will see all of the available options for custom photos. I went with a blank template where I could print my own design/photo.

Once shipped, everything is professionally packed and secured so that your prints are safe and free from the possibility of getting damaged. I am always so excited to open my prints because they always turn out so beautiful!

I'm so in love with my custom prints, and to share the love, I wanted to partner with Minted for a Valentine's Day Giveaway for all of you to have a chance to win something amazing!
